Dr Rob Wilson

Dr Wilson originally studied Molecular and Cellular Biology at Bath University with a placement year in a lab at The Garvan Institute in Sydney, before working in a research lab at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. While here he gained more of an appreciation of the clinical applications of translational research and left to study Medicine at Oxford University graduating to undertake an Academic Foundation Programme (AFP) in Brighton. He has always had an interest in Oncology and Haematology, and carried out a position as a clinical fellow in the Bone Marrow Transplant team at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre before joining Velindre Cancer centre to study for an MD.

Rob’s MD project revolves around the immune response to head and neck cancer, studying the dynamics of it, and whether it can be targeted by drugs and therapy. The immune system plays a huge role in cancer that we are only just beginning to appreciate, and the concept of using this as a potential treatment target is extremely exciting.
