Mission statment
Our mission is to advance cancer research through comprehensive genomic investigation, integrating molecular profiling with cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches. We aim to elucidate the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying tumour initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and leveraging state-of-the-art technologies, we seek to identify novel biomarkers, refine molecular classifications, and uncover actionable targets for precision oncology. Committed to rigorous, reproducible, and translational science, our work strives to deepen understanding of cancer biology and drive the development of diagnostics and targeted therapies that improve outcomes across diverse patient populations.
Strategy statement
Our strategy is to harness the expertise of scientists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians to uncover the genetic and genomic mechanisms that drive cancer progression and translate these insights into novel diagnostic tools and precision therapies. Our researchers are connected through the Precision and Mechanistic Oncology Research Theme and the Wales Cancer Bioinformatics Network, supported by the Wales Cancer Research Centre and aligned with national and international genomic medicine initiatives. We will deliver clinical impact through close partnerships with the All Wales Medical Genomics Service, Wales Gene Park, Wales Cancer Biobank, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Velindre Cancer Centre, ensuring that discoveries move seamlessly from research into patient benefit.
