Lead Research Nurse receives study award from Health and Care Research Wales

Kate Gilmour has received a Health and Care Research Wales Research Training Award to support her to study for a MRes Health Research at the University of Stirling.
Following a career in social work, Kate retrained as a registered nurse. She worked at Velindre Cancer Centre for three years, starting out as a SACT nurse before taking up a research nurse role with the Cardiff Cancer Research Partnership.
Kate chose to study at the University of Stirling because their MRes course is entirely online which will fit in with her work.
“Stirling is a good choice for me, allowing me to work and study with seminars in the evening. The course has a broad range of modules which will extend my understanding of research methods, study design and ethics and governance.
I’m not interested in research as a theoretical exercise – instead I’m excited about how it can be adapted for patient care and bring real benefit to people in our communities.
I hope to one day represent nurse-led research to a high calibre, to have influenced practice, to have improved care for patients and to encourage other nurses to undertake a career in research,” said Kate.
