Clinical Trials Pharmacist

Karen has a BPharm(Hons) and DipClinPharm and has 30 years’ experience working at Velindre Cancer Service.

She supports the Cardiff Cancer Research Partnership, working as part of a pharmacy clinical trials team to manage pharmacy requirements and collaborating closely with trial nurses, clinicians, and sponsors.

Karen assesses the feasibility and support needs of each trial, writes Standard Operating Procedures for new products, and develops in-house procedures and ChemoCare prescriptions, ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements for drug preparation. She also oversees staff training on preparation and handling of Investigational Medical Products and ensures the safe prescription of trial treatments, from receipt to destruction.
