Dr. McPhail discussed his research work at Cardiff University within the field of preclinical cancer biology, leading to his appointment as a WCRC-funded fellow within the MDI. He introduced ongoing work in the MDI and new therapeutic targets of current interest within the oncology field. Prof. Westwell described the origins of small molecule cancer drug candidates, and some of the challenges in identification of new drug candidates for clinical evaluation.
